Agriculture and Ecology

Agriculture has been derived from a Latin word 'agricultura'. The meaning of the word agriculture as 'ager' - which means a field and cultura - which means cultivation. Further semantics tell us that this word literally means "tillage of soil". The word comprises a broader meaning in today's world. It deals with the prodcution of food and products of farming (crop cultivation and animal husbandry). This noble activity of producing food occupies a majority of India population. We will understand this with the help of some more key satatistics.

In India the agricultural sector employs around 65% of the population and contributes to 25% of the GDP. India stands second in the world, in terms of farm output . India holds the top rank worldwide in the prodution of tea, milk, ginger, turmeric, cashewnuts (subject to change)
